Eating Healthy on a Budget

March is National Nutrition Month, and Black Doctors Ohio wanted to provide our community with some quick tips that you can use all month long and for the rest of the year. It is important to remember that there is no diet out there that is right for everyone; however, making just small changes in your food choices and daily diet can add up over time. Every bite counts!

Eating healthy without breaking the bank nowadays can be a tedious task; however, these tips can help you improve your diet and save you money!

  • Plan your meals for the week before you go shopping
  • Keep an eye out for “On Sale” items
  • Buy more fresh fruits and vegetables, and less meat. (are cheapest when they’re in season)
  • Instead of meat, use beans in some recipes
  • Compare labels to pick the healthiest options when you shop
  • Buy frozen fruits and vegetables (when fresh stuff is out of budget)
  • Buy whole-grain bread, pastas, crackers, and rice
  • Keep your leftovers (could add up to another dinner or tomorrows lunch)
